Complete results of the 2004 Singles Combined Driving Championship in Astorp, Sweden.

Its official, Scott Monroe finished 12th with a score of 135.99, Scott Padgett in 24th with 146.49, and Fred Merriam in 36th with 153.38. All three USA drivers went double clean with Fred Merriam winning the cones competition, Scott Monroe in 6th in cones and Scott Padgett 7th in cones.

Sweden's Marie Kahrle finished 1st, the Netherland's Jan van den Broek in 2nd and Finland's Ben Simonsen in third. (At this time Cecilia Qvarnstöm is listed in the individual standings, not sure what that means)

In the team competition, the USA finished in 9th place with a combined score of 278.3

Sweden finishes in 1st place with a score of 238.5, Finland 2nd with 244.7 and Poland 3rd with 253.5. Canada finished 15th with a score of 328.6

The marathon competition is complete with 61 out of the original 64 entries competing. In the marathon Scott Padgett is in 47th place with 98.49 penalty points, Scott Monroe is in 17th place with 83.59 penalty points, and Fred Merriam is in 55th place with 105.18 penalty points.

Dressage & Marathon points combined put Scott Monroe in 23rd place with 135.99 points, Scott Padgett in 38th place with 146.29 points and Fred Merriam in 46th place with 153.38 points.

In the team competition, the USA is in 13th place with a combined dressage & marathon score of 278.3, Sweden retains the lead with a combined score of 232.5.

The dressage competition is complete. Scott Padgett received a score with 48.00 penalty points, and with all 64 scores reported (official), that puts him tied with 2 others in 23rd place, Fred Merriam in 26th and Scott Monroe in 34th.

In the team competition, the USA is in 9th place (out of 20 teams) with a score of 96.2, Sweden leads with a score of 79.6.

Dressage results for the day (more to come tomorrow, only 32 tests today) Fred Merriam in 12th place with 48.20 penalty points, Scott Monroe is 19th with 52.40 penalty points. The leader is Arja Mikkonen from Finland with 38.60. Canada's Sue Mott is 18th with a 52.20 penalty points. Click here to see the current (not official) results so far. Opening ceremonies on Wednesday, then the vet check with all horses passing. Fred Merriam and Scott Monroe have dressage on Thursday, Scott Padgett on Friday.

On the 19th the horses moved to the showgrounds and the weather is not looking better, it continues to rain. Dressage will be on Thursday & Friday, Marathon on Saturday, Cones on Sunday.

The team made it over safe and sound. There has been a lot of rain.

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) today (5/26/2004) announced the team for the 2004 World Singles Driving Championship in Astorp, Sweden in July 22-25.  The team is as follows: 

  • Fred Merriam, 54  of  Newfane, Vermont, driving Gaitwood Lightwing, a  Morgan gelding.
  • Scott  Monroe, 51  of  Sharon, Connecticut  driving  Bethesda After Dark  a 10 year old, Morgan.
  • Scott Padgett , 27  of Southern Pines, North Carolina  driving Collector’s Right Stuff, a 13 year old Morgan
  • Alternate team member  is Kate Shields,  55 from Middleburg, Virginia    driving Hastening Pilgrim, a 10 year old, Welsh Cob.

The team members and alternate were recommended by the USEF Driving Selectors by a unanimous vote of those selectors eligible to vote.
